![]() ![]() Just wanted to make the effort to stop by and tell you how much I enjoy Perian. You should have done this in perian’s ticket system instead. This is really the wrong place to ask this. Would it be possible to include this format to the Perian component ? Greetings Hi, I’m desperately looking for a solution to encode videos in the AMV format under Mac OS X 10.4 Up to this date there’s only one software doing this : Kptic, edited by Neonumeric ( ) and developped by DigDash ( ), but this is a proprietary solution working only with Neonumeric players. Please check out my work on Perian’s main web page. Increased the speed of ffmpeg’s decoding of H.264.Worked out big and little endian issues.Changed the data path for ffusion to expedite decoding.Made a script which could build ffmpeg as a universal library.I admit, I was hesitant at first, but after a bit, I helped him set up a repository. I was recently given a keynote presentation which contained a movie.I started work with Perian back in June of 2006 when Augie asked me, “say, any interest in updating the the ffmpeg based quicktime component?”. When I played the presentation the sound worked but the movie was blank. It turned out the movie was not in a format that Quicktime could play. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.’ When I tried to play the movie in Quicktime I got an error saying ‘The document could not be opened. Perian is a handy free program that allows your mac to play almost any movie format, including AVI files from a Windows computer. ![]() Perian just sits in the background and allows other programs (like Keynote) to play movies that they wouldn’t normally be able to play. It claims to play all the following movie formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW, MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX, 3ivx, H.264, Sorenson H.263, FLV/Sorenson Spark, FSV1, VP6, H263i, VP3, HuffYUV, FFVHuff, MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video, Fraps, Snow, NuppelVideo, Techsmith Screen Capture and DosBox Capture. To install it simply click on the icon and it will install itself as a Preference Pane. It sits in the background – you don’t need to do anything. ![]() Your normal programs such as Keynote and Quicktime will now be able to play any movie format. You will need to quit and restart Quicktime or Keynote after you install Perian. To watch movies in your screen in a player. Perian won’t play wmf files and some kinds of AVI movies. To play all files try out VLC for Mac OS X. The only problem with VLC is that it only allows you to watch the movie in it’s own player, not in Keynote or other programs. How to uninstall QuickTime codecs in Mac OS X VLC is awesome and allows you to watch any movie. There are different ways to uninstall a QuickTime codec. First of them is just trashing the component file from the /Library/QuickTime folder. This is really straight forward but has an inconvenient as if codec is required again you should have to download, unzip and copy the component file just trashed.A more convenient way to "uninstall" such codecs is just creating a folder called "Inactive" and dropping the component files you don't need there.Just make sure to relaunch any QuickTime application you might have open to apply the changes done. Finally you could also run the uninstaller assistant to get rid of them (in case there's such assistant available). This is a small list of commonly needed codecs in Mac OS X computers.
